[It's said with a more playful tone of voice, lacking any possibly teasing or mean edge to it, and it's followed by an excited nod.]

Yeah! Let's go try them all out! We can write spoilers in all of the books, nishishi!

[He turns to go check out the quills and stationery, taking Shuichi's hand and gently pulling him with.]

[He allows himself to be tugged over to the display.]

O-Oma-kun, I still d-don't think they're going to let you use them without buying them first!

[He's not sure quills are something people give you an in-store trial of??? Presumably, if you're buying them, you know how to use them...]

No way, they totally do! They're like cars. You have to be able to test drive them before you take them home!

[Despite suggesting this nonsense idea, he doesn't ask to try any of them out once they reach the display and he starts looking them over. He lets go of the detective once more so he can peruse whatever he'd like in the area and so that he can have two hands to pick up and touch all the feathers.]

These are pretty cool...they'll totally enhance my drawings, don't you think?

[He is almost certain that is not how it works!!!]

Um... [He looks a little dubious. Honestly? No, he's pretty sure they wouldn't enhance Kokichi's drawings, since he has no idea how to USE a quill properly.] M-Maybe?

[There's something a little more pressing than whether or not quills would make Kokichi's art better, however.]

I didn't know you liked to draw, Oma-kun...

[No, it totally help. Especially since he doesn't know how to use it properly. That can only mean his art would become masterpieces. Have you seen the dumb art people hang up in museums????]

Well surprise then! I love drawing. It's pretty fun! Did you know Fantasy Costco has crayons? I was kind of expecting weird old tech magic fantasy land not to have anything like that. Like maybe I'd have to get berries and flowers and make my own paint or something.

[Which he was sort of prepared to do, if need be.]

Ah, but I'm not very good. [A surprisingly honest answer from him?? No lying about how he painted the Mona Lisa or something...]

Um...n-no, I didn't. [Not an artist himself, Shuichi never looked for crayons on any of his visits to Fantasy Costco.] I'm kind of surprised you didn't try something like that anyway...

[Making his own paint, he means. It just sounds like the kind of weird thing Kokichi would do anyway.]

Well I could, I do know how you know. I'm sure it'd be easy enough to get fruit and vegetable equivalents for some of the colors. But...other colors need like. You know...bug. Stuff.

[And he's sure he doesn't need to explain to Shuichi why he wouldn't be making those specific colors.]

You have to ground and mash them up and make a powder, and it's always from the creepiest, crawliest ones with the grossest legs and the nastiest antenna and the worst smell.....

A-ah...

[Bugs. Terrible. Awful.]

Are you sure there's not...plants you can use even for those colors? I mean...there's plants here that don't exist back home...

[Surely you can get the full array of color with plants. Who needs bugs?]

Maybe. I'd have to look into it. To be honest, I was more worried about the idea of having to use even worse bugs. You know bugs in fantasy magic places are always extra gross...extra creepy. Sometimes extra big, or they goosh more when you squish them, or they have longer bodies and more legs...

[He's getting paler by the minute, thinking about all the awful bugs there could be in Faerun...]

[Shuichi pales considerably as well.]

I...I see. Um...can we maybe talk about s-something else?

[Literally anything else. Why did you have to go into such detail about how much grosser Faerun bugs might be, Kokichi? Why? Don't you want him to enjoy this date??]

[There's a short pause before Kokichi laughs a little, rubbing at his neck.]

Whoopsies! Sorry about that...jeez, bugs are a horrible topic for a date, what was I thinking?

[Way to go Kokichi, messing it all up!!]

You'll have to forgive me, I'm not always thinking straight when I'm around you, y'know? [Wink.] But this is a no bug zone from here on out! So was there anything you just have to get today? I think I'm totally gonna get this really long blue quill pen and some ink for myself.

A-ah, it's okay...you don't have to apologize...

[Shuichi stares determinedly at the ground as he says this, cheeks faintly pink once more. As gross as bugs are, Kokichi hasn't TOTALLY messed it all up, don't worry. Overall, things are still going well.]

But, um...th-thanks. And n-no, there's nothing I need today, so I'm...r-ready to go wherever you have planned next as soon as you get your quill...

Nishishi! If you say so.

[That blush is because, finally, his flirting is getting through to him, right? Right?! He's pretty happy with himself, snatching up the quill he wants and a bottle of ink and paying for both quickly enough before gesturing for Shuichi to follow him out the door. And, once outside, he offers the detective his hand.]

Come on! I think we should indulge in some of New New Aspen's traditions!

[Shuichi doesn't immediately take the leader's proffered hand, but rather stares at it for a few moments. Then slowly, he extends his own hand and takes Kokichi's into it. Holding hands with the other boy is...surprisingly nice? Nicer than he thought it would be, if he's being honest. There's just something about the way his much smaller hand fits into his own.]

O-Oh? What kind of traditions?

[Is it any nicer with how warm his smile becomes? Or how he squeezes your hand a little?]

Apparently making an ornament for their big tree is a very important one, and it sounds pretty fun! At least trying it, anyway.

[Yes, actually. That does make it even nicer, and brings a weird sort of swooping sensation to his stomach. He's just going to ignore that odd felling for now, because he's not sure what to make of it.]

Um...well I'm not very artistic but...I can try and make one. It doesn't have to be good, right?

[Don't ignore that, it's a good feeling!]

Mm! What matters most is the feeling you put into it. There's no grading or judging or anything.

M-mm, alright then.

[He will try his best! To make an ornament! For the tree!!]

[Lead the way, Kokichi. Not that...he can't plainly see the tree and therefore knows exactly where they're headed.]

[Lead the way he does! Predictably to the tree, where tools to carve ornaments are set up. Kokichi looks over their options, then turns to the detective.]

There are a few places to sit it looks like! Do you wanna sit closer to the tree you think?

Um...wherever you want to sit is fine with me. I don't...really have a preference.

[Wow this tree is even bigger up close. Like. He knew it was huge, but there's just something about standing RIGHT FUCKING NEXT TO IT that makes it seem all the more colossal. Perhaps because he has to crane his neck back to look at it. And even then, it's impossible to make out the top.]

[Humming, Shuichi's tugged over to sit closer to the tree, Kokichi picking two chairs side by side.]

Let's sit here then!

Alright. Though... Don't we need to get...tools and such first...?

You sit down, I'll get them! Don't worry about a thing.

[He knew they needed tools, but he'd apparently planned on doing that part of the work himself.]
